Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Review

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a bigger and better Android phone than the new Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. The phone features a 6.2-inch curved screen and impress low-light dual-lens camera. It might bear a striking resemblance to the old S8 Plus, but the fingerprint scanner has been fixed at least. It was moved to be center-aligned on the back. It also features stereo speakers for incredible sound quality.

This is certainly a phone for power users, who want a large phone with fantastic photo taking capability. Sure it looks similar to previous gen S8 Plus, but there's no denying, this is one of the best smartphones on the market.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is easily the most advanced phone Samsung has made thanks to an incredible camera and oversized screen. Don’t let the fact that it looks just like the Galaxy S8 Plus put you off. This is still one of the best phones on the market right now.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Pros

  • Features an impressive low-light camera
  • Great quality stereo speakers for music, games, and movies
  • Improved fingerprint sensor accuracy

Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus Drawbacks

  • The AR Emoji mode is somewhat overrated
  • Design wise, it's too similar to S8 Plus
  • You do pay a premium for what is essentially an additional 0.4 inch in screen size

The two major highlights of the phone have proven to be the low-light photos and big screen. It has a 6.2” “infinity” display, making it just a bit larger than the 5.8” of the original Galaxy S9, with both handsets coming with an improved 12MP camera complete with f/1.5 minimum aperture.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is the first smartphone to be released with a camera aperture this wide, giving the phone – both the regular Galaxy S9 and Plus – low-light and noise-cancellation powers that put it on par with (if not above) the Google Pixel 2. It easily has the best camera on the market, which is a plus for the photography buffs. It even outperforms the new LG G7 ThinQ.

There’s bound to be some strong competition from Huawei, and we’re interested in the LG G7, but Samsung aims to stay king of the mobile world with the Galaxy S9. It might not have major upgrades compared to the S8 Plus, but it is better than having to wait for a new device.

The Samsung S9 Plus looks great and is practically flawless as a phone. It offers premium specs and top-range features in a well-made, sleek design. Some people might have a problem with how similar it is to the old model, but we’ll just be glad that Samsung kept the headphone jack. Don’t fix what isn’t broken!

This is one of the best smartphones that money can buy, and you’re likely wondering if you should choose this one over the regular S9. The answer to that question is that you should... the quality of that additional screen size really does shine though, but of course, only if you are able to afford the extra cost and will make use of that extra display real estate.

A relatively simple SIM Only comparison calculation is to add up how much a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus SIM free phone would cost, this is where you buy the phone without a contract and pay for the full cost of the handset upfront. The benefit here is flexibility: you're able to then compare the SIM Only contract market where Mobile Networks often give you far better usage allowances and shorter contract terms. Once you've found a SIM Only contract that meets your needs, note the monthly cost over the course of 24 months and add this to your SIM Free Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus handset cost.
